Franks A Lot
About This Spot
Nestled along the lively stretch of East Burnside, Franks A Lot has the easygoing pulse of a neighborhood gem that welcomes both hurried locals and curious newcomers. The moment you approach, there’s a sense of effortless comfort—the kind that comes with a place rooted in community rather than flash. Whether you pull up to the handy drive-thru window or step inside for a quick pickup, the rhythm here feels unpretentious and warm, as if this is a place where everyone has their favorite order locked in but the conversation is always open.
The pace is casual and inviting, perfectly matched to the menu’s straightforward yet thoughtfully crafted offerings. Here, the humble hot dog becomes a canvas for playful variety—from classic Chicago-style dogs piled high with vibrant peppers and tangy sauerkraut, to inventive veggie and vegan options that mirror the city’s inclusive spirit. Handmade chocolate shakes and crispy onion rings hover on the edge of indulgence, recalling simpler pleasures without fuss. There’s an honest heart to the food here, a balance of nostalgia and care that invites you to slow down and savor each bite.
Franks A Lot feels like one of those important places that belongs to Portland’s everyday fabric—not a tourist spectacle, but a spot that locals rely on for the sort of comforting, satisfying meals that make up many afternoons and quick dinners. Behind the counter, the folks running the place carry a genuine friendliness that never feels rehearsed, making every visit feel like a small moment of connection. Their enthusiasm for their craft shines through in every order, whether it’s a spicy Oktoberfest sausage topped just right or a perfectly crisp corn dog served with house-made fry sauce.
It’s clear too, from the diverse options and attention to detail, that Franks A Lot isn’t just catering to tradition but also to the city’s evolving tastes—offering gluten-free and plant-based alternatives with the same care as their classic franks. There’s an understated pride in that, a reflection of a spot that understands its role as a local fixture: a reliable source of comfort food, friendly faces, and a little bit of joy wrapped in a bun.

I would eat here every day if it wouldn’t make me fat. 10/10 hot dogs, corn dogs, fries and more with vegan and gluten free options. They also have a drive thru! This place is a classic Portland staple.

This is what they mean by local Portland spot. Don't go to a dumb Food Cart. This is what is amazing. And important to Portland. Don't miss this unique place and they have veggie options as well. It's just a couple of guys doing their best.

I haven't had a hot dog in years because I'm not really a fan but these are good. Large portions. The chili cheese fries we got is a small. Gluten free and vegetarian options. Quick service and hot made to order.

Great little pick up window, drive thru spot. The chili is fantastic! We pick up chili and a corn dog for those cold evenings. Onion rings are nice and crispy without being greasy. My pup loves to stop for a treat. She even got her picture on the wall.

Had the 1/3lb spicy and it was pretty good. The folks running it were pretty friendly and I was pleased with the flavor and kick 9f my "hottie" dog!!!!

While on a “Hotdogs & Hand me downs” Tour of Portland, Franks A Lot was a highlight. Extensive selection of franks and toppings and sides! Fast, friendly service. Dog friendly picnic area. Hand dipped corn dogs of your choice and hot, tasty onion rings. It’s not fine dining, but it elevates your hotdog experience. My choice was a grilled Polish frank with deli mustard and dill pickle relish on a great bun. Very affordable too!

Very yummy vegan bratwurst! They were generous with toppings and the flavors were great. I love that they have a few vegan options to choose from. We would definitely come back for a quick bite again!
